Improvement Hell: Figure Study

Continuing on my art improvement journey, the second prompt from the challenge is a figure study from a reference. I found my reference on Pinterest, as that’s my main source of inspiration and images.

For my version of the image, I decided to go with rough, sketchy lines and only minimal, pencil-like shading. I think it turned out alright, but unremarkable.

I wasn’t given a lot of direction for today’s challenge, and I’m not really sure what comments to make about it. I took around half an hour to finish this piece, and I used only black and white pencil brushes on a cream-coloured background, using Procreate as usual.

That being said, I might be changing things up going forward. I downloaded Clip Studio Paint to my iPad. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this program. Besides Photoshop (which is scum) it’s the main program that Drawfee uses to draw their art! I’m a big fan of Drawfee, and they were a big part of why I wanted to try out Clip Studio.

So far, it seems very complicated and I miss Procreate whenever I open Clip Studio. So we’ll see if I end up taking the time to learn the program and get good at it.

As far as this art challenge, though, my next prompt is to draw another figure from a reference, but this time in an action pose! I typically struggle with action poses, so I’m curious how that will go. Check back in tomorrow to find out!
