Inktober Prompts 1-7

I may be a full two weeks behind posting about Inktober, but that isn’t to say that I’ve forgotten about it! I admittedly was quite stuck on the very first prompt and fell behind because of that. After I expressed my situation to my partner, he gave me an excellent suggestion, and I was able to get the ball rolling. Still behind schedule, but I’m still getting there.

With that, let’s get into the first week of prompts.

#1 Dream

One of my favourite Fleetwood Mac songs is Dreams, and my partner’s suggestion for the first prompt of Inktober was to draw the album art. I think it turned out pretty well. It’s handy the design was already in strong black and white!

#2 Spiders

I wasn’t excited about this prompt, and took another brilliant suggestion from my partner to do Spider-man fanart instead of having to draw actual spiders, because I really don’t like spiders. So here we have my loving rendition of a classic meme!

#3 Path

I didn’t need any help for this one, because at this point I was starting to get back into the groove of making art. I used a photo of the view off my own balcony as a reference, and did my best to capture the chaos of leaves without using any colour.

#4 Dodge

I had an idea right away for this prompt. It wasn’t the cleverest or most inspired, but I think it works well enough. If you’re unfamiliar, this is the cover of the movie Dodgeball, starring Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn. It’s not one of my favourite movies by a good stretch, but it was still my first idea for this prompt. I’m not sure what that says about me.

#5 Map

This one is the first one I did with no reference, strictly following my imagination, and I think it shows. But I think it still turned out okay, if not quite as good as some other work I’ve produced.

#6 Golden

My immediate thought with this prompt was to draw a golden retriever, one of the most beautiful dog breeds. I found a reference and then quickly realised that golden fur catching the light is really hard to convey in black scribbles!

#7 Drip

This prompt could be interpretted a bunch of different ways, but I decided to take it to mean rain dripping off an umbrella. I feel kind of like I should have added a background that wasn’t just white for this so the umbrella wouldn’t look so muddy, but I’m still pretty happy with what I drew.

And with that, I made my way through the first week of prompts.

I’m still working on catching up to the current day, but I’ll do my best to get another week of prompts done as soon as I’m able.

This challenge has been, well, challenging. It’s brought to light the fact that I need to work on my self-discipline, because it is very easy to fall behind on this challenge!

I’m not going to give up, though. I’ve completed Inktober challenges before, and I am going to complete this one!

So keep watching this space for the rest of the prompts as I get through them!
