My partner and I recently moved out of our apartment. We’re still unpacking in the new place, and not everything is getting unpacked since we’re only going to be here a few months before moving again, but I’ve been trying to make it feel like home for while we’re here. The one way I know best to do so is to crochet, so that’s what I’ve been doing!
For starters, I don’t like that the bottom metal of the shaving cream can can leave marks on the counter, so I crocheted a little cozy for it. Functional, and it looks pretty!

Then I wanted a light over the sink for while I’m washing dishes. I have several lamps that are just a light bulb socket on a cord, so I made a little sling to hang one up by. The light was harsh with just an exposed bulb, so I wanted a lampshade. I crocheted one and to stiffen it, I put it on an old bottle covered in plastic wrap and then coated it in a water-glue mixture. I let it dry overnight and behold, a finished lampshade!

It’s nothing particularly fancy, but it makes it feel nicer here, and more our own. It brings me joy to be surrounded by practical things that I made myself. And the money saved is a nice touch, too, since I already had all the materials needed!
We’re still unpacking and getting settled in our new home, and we’re pretty far out of town so I have less access to going places on my own as I don’t drive, but I’m looking forward to the adventures we’ll have here. There’s lots of beautiful nature to explore and draw inspiration from, which makes me very happy.
