My latest crochet creations have, coincidentally, all been sea creatures! Or, at least, creatures who mainly hang out in the water. Maybe that’s influenced by my recent trip to Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada in Toronto.
First, axolotls! I’ve made several of these cute little guys. There’s something magical about axolotls. Maybe it’s their ability to regrow body parts, maybe it’s their fascinating feathery gills, or maybe it’s just their adorable, derpy little faces.

Next, I decided to tackle the complexity that is a hermit crab! The crabs themselves were a challenge, what with the claws and then trying to figure out the pleon (the body that curls into the shell), but the real challenge was figuring out how to crochet a shell! It took a few attempts before I figured it out, but I’m pretty happy with the results I achieved.

Then I realised I hadn’t made any proper octopuses in a very long time, and I had an idea for how to make them look really cool and two-toned. So I worked up a group of these cephalopods in various colourways. They’re so cute!

My most recent creation was a very large, plush seal pup! I think it turned out incredibly cute, and I’m very happy with it. I’m thinking I’ll try out using more kinds of yarn like this for other big plushies in the future!
