When I was a kid, my first video game was Pokemon Blue, which I played on a GameBoy Color. I played it several times, and through the years I’ve played other Pokemon games. I haven’t really enjoyed the newer games as much and I kind of feel like they’ve missed the mark with some design choices, but I do still enjoy the world and concept of Pokemon. I like to think about the different designs of the Pokemon, and I’ve even been designing my own Pokemon region with my own adjustments and styles of Pokemon. But when it comes to the actual games, my favourite Pokemon ever since it first came out has been Turtwig and its evolutions. It’s just a very cute tortoise with plants growing on its shell, and I really like the idea of Torterra, its final form, being an animal companion that I could lounge on and ride, like a big island of a horse.

Over the years, I’ve done a decent amount of artwork of Turtwig. Just the other day I finished sketching a set of four drawings featuring them in different landscapes, showing the four seasons. I think it turned out really cool, so I wanted to share it.

I think they all turned out really cute. I like to think that the foliage on the Pokemon changes with the seasons, because that would be really cool if that was canonically part of the design!
